Three-time World Cup Total Score Champion Kaisa Mäkäräinen made her World Cup debut in 2005. After a gradual start, Mäkäräinen became one of the household names in biathlon, regularly setting the fastest tracks times and impressed fans and colleagues with her “never-give-up” attitude on the last loops time after time. In March 2020, Mäkäräinen retired from biathlon at her home venue in Kontiolahti, having won a total of 27 World Cup competitions. During the BMW IBU World Championships in Nove Mesto, Mäkäräinen is on-site as expert for Finnish broadcaster YLE.
